How Card Values Are Calculated in Baccarat
One of the things that makes baccarat so easy to learn is its straightforward card valuation. Unlike blackjack where you're aiming under 21, in baccarat a hand's value can never exceed 9 — and it's calculated in a uniquely simple way.
Number cards 2 through 9 carry their face value. 10s, Jacks, Queens, and Kings are all worth 0. Aces are worth 1. When a hand's total exceeds 9, only the last digit counts — for example, 7 + 8 = 15, so the hand value is 5.
